Page Rank Factors:
- Number of Backlinks
- Quality of Backlinks
- Relevancy of Backlinks
- Type of Backlink
All four points mentioned above combined to form "class" of
link for that specific website, the term "class for specific website"
is important to understand because a link might be beneficial for
some website and helps a lot in improving page rank and might be search
engine position (depending upon how link is backed to the web page) but this
doesn't necessary mean that it will be beneficial for every other kind /
category of page. Every web page has its own way to define the class for
backlink, depending on four above mentioned factors.
Relevancy plays an important role to define class of link
for different websites. If the back link is relevant then search engine will
analyze the relevancy and give credit to linked website. On the other
hand if link is from totally irrelevant website then it might penalize
website depending on number of irrelevant back links.
The more relevant back links, the more it will boost the page rank of the
website, but quantity is always effective with quality.
Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a
website has as one of the most important factors for determining that
website's search engine ranking. Knowledge of this form of search engine
rankings has fueled a portion of the SEO industry commonly termed
linkspam, where a company attempts to place as many inbound links as
possible to their site regardless of the context of the originating site.
Websites often employ various SEO techniques to increase the number of
backlinks pointing to their website. Some methods are free for use by
everyone whereas some methods like
linkbaiting requires
quite a bit of planning and marketing to work. Some websites stumble upon
"linkbaiting" naturally; the sites that are the first with a tidbit
of 'breaking news' about a celebrity are good examples of that. When
"linkbait" happens, many websites will link to the
'baiting' website because there is information there that is of
extreme interest to a large number of people.
