Concerned Groups?
Republicans
You can blame the Democrats, and ignore the poor as usual. Tax breaks for huge
corporations and the rich does NOT help anyone but the rich. Maybe you could
start a nice war overseas that will allow money to trickle down to the poor.
Think about it - helping the poor is creating more middle class people for your
corporations to feed on, thus increasing your stock portfolio! $10 million
CEO bonuses? Come on, Guys!
Democrats
You can blame the Republicans, and talk about poverty until you are blue in the
face - again. But you'll do nothing more than establish another committee to
look into poverty, or create another department in the government to regulate
poverty. Think about it - helping the poor is creating more Democrats to TALK
about fixing things in this country! Put your money where your mouth is!
Christians
"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40. Think about it - helping the
poor is creating more potential Christians to help you make the rest of America
conform to your value system!
Hindus
Giving to the poor is a very good way of building up good Karma, and, the beggar
may have been your brother, sister, or loved one in a previous life. This is
America where the concept of untouchables is unthinkable!
Buddhists
The giving of alms is the beginning of one's journey to Nirvana. Anguttara Nikaya
(A.iv,236). Why not start that journey to Nirvana on your way to work tomorrow
morning with a little change for the homeless guy on the corner?
Muslims
The giving of alms is the "Third of the five pillars of Islam ...
" Surah at-Taubah verses 34-35. "And there are those who bury gold
and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah, announce unto them a most
grievous penalty ..." For those of you who do not see the rest of we
Americans as infidel threats, show your support for your country by helping
others in a country that protects even those religions that seem to want to
destroy it.
Disclaimer:
These are general, politically incorrect statements, and as with ANY generalization, never apply to ALL within the generalization. There are those within these groups mentioned who do, in fact, do what they can to help the poor and homeless. Perhaps these good people will motivate their group to fight the war on poverty and homelessness.
As for the politicians within these groups, how about doing what you're paid to do: TAKE CARE OF AMERICA! Not the big corporations, special interest groups, problems overseas or lining your own pockets. Let's fix America FIRST - then we can start fixing the rest of the world by example.
